Origins of Vitamin C
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient found in various food sources. It falls into the category of water-soluble vitamins, which also includes Vitamin B. As water-soluble vitamins are not held in the body for a long period of time, it is recommended that they are consumed daily to maintain optimum levels.
Sources of Vitamin C include citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwis, watermelons, bell peppers, broccoli, and Brussel sprouts. Nowadays, vitamin C is incredibly popular due to its wide range of health benefits.
Vitamin C was discovered in 1912 and first produced in 1933, making it the first vitamin to ever be chemically manufactured. It is currently on the World Health Organisation’s List of Essential Medicines.
