Origins of Caffeine
Caffeine has been around for thousands of years. The first mention of Caffeine comes from a folk tale, stating that a farmer's goats became restless after being moved to new pastures. The farmer realised that his herd had been eating a type of berry which, once dried, was known as the 'coffee bean'. The word 'Caffeine' originates from kaffe, the German word for 'coffee'. The term could also derive from the French term for coffee, cafe. Caffeine is one of the most consumed products amongst adults with 90% of the adult American population consuming Caffeine. Caffeine occurs naturally in tea and coffee but is found in the seeds and leaves of plants.
Benefits of Caffeine
Caffeine is chemically similar to two nitrogenous bases that form DNA and RNA, adenine and guanine. The product is a natural stimulant that boosts energy levels, a trait that is particularly beneficial to athletes. Caffeine also boosts cognitive performance by aiding concentration levels.
