What is Iodine?
Iodine was discovered in 1811 by a French scientist. Bernard Courtois came across the purple substance while trying to extract other materials from seaweed, hence the name which derives from the Greek term for violet, iodes. Our bodies can't produce Iodine so we rely on dietary intake and supplementation. Fish and dairy products are rich dietary sources of Iodine, with white fish containing more Iodine than oily fish. Other dietary sources include vegetables grown on or around soil rich in Iodine, such as seaweed.
Benefits of Iodine
Iodine contributes to normal energy metabolism, the functioning of the nervous system and cognitive system. Iodine also contributes to the production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function, and the maintenance of normal skin. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding require a higher intake of Iodine, and vegetarians and vegans may be at risk to a deficiency due to the nature of the natural food source.
Our Iodine tablets
Our Iodine tablets are available in four different quantities to suit your needs. Please note that these tablets are made from Potassium Iodide, a synthetic source - if you are looking for a naturally sourced supplement, please see our Sea Kelp tablets.
Please note - we recommend that both the 500 and 1,000 tablet options are more suitable for use by more than one person. This is to ensure that you are receiving full use of the product before its expiry date. For one person's use, we recommend the 120 or 240 tablet options.
