Origins of Milk Thistle
Milk Thistle is extracted from a plant belonging to the daisy family (Silybum Marianum). Its origins and usage are believed to date back many hundreds of years in the Mediterranean and now, due to its popularity, right across the world. It was said to be used widely by the Romans thanks to its high levels of converted silymarin. The plant itself can be fully eaten but the bit we use is contained within the seeds. Its name comes from the milk-like sap that’s contained within the leaves.
