Our Oxford Vitality nutritionists have specifically formulated a Multivitamin tablet, aimed towards the young adult aged 11 - 18 years. The teenage years are a time of great change, including physiological and psychological adjustments. The main reason for these differences is puberty. On average, 25% of our growth occurs during this period of time. Young adults have different nutritional needs when they are 40 years old in comparison to their teenage years. Our Multivitamin tablets for teenagers aged 11 - 18 contain 22 vitamins and minerals which are specially formulated together to benefit those aged 11 - 18 years. This includes Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, D3, E and K2, and Biotin, Calcium, Chromium, Copper, Folic Acid, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Selenium and Zinc.

Vitamin A

The primary role of Vitamin A is to support normal vision. A deficiency in the vitamin can cause night blindness, a condition that is prevalent in more than 50% of countries worldwide and the main reason for blindness in children. Vitamin A is also responsible for the function of the immune system, normal Iron metabolism and cell specialisation, and the maintenance of normal skin. Children aged 11 - 18 require between 600 to 700mcg and one serving of our multivitamin tablets contains 600mcg of Vitamin A.

The B Vitamins

The B vitamins are well known for their energy-yielding properties, reducing fatigue and contributing to the normal functioning of the nervous system.

Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1 contributes to normal energy production and psychological functioning, preventing fatigue and keeping the brain alert. Thiamine also plays a role in the normal functioning of the heart and nervous system to keep illness at bay. Teenage boys require 1,000mcg and girls require 800mcg of Thiamine each day. One dose of our Vitamin B1 tablets contains just under 700mcg of the vitamin. Vitamin B1 is also legally required to be added to white and brown flour, therefore all brown and white (but not wholegrain) bread has added Vitamin B1.

Vitamin B2

Riboflavin aids the production of red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. The vitamin also aids the functioning of the nervous system, maintains mucous membranes and helps with the metabolism of energy. Vitamin B2 also has antioxidative properties, protecting cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Young adults require 1.1 - 1.3mg Vitamin B2 each day and one dose of our Multivitamin tablets contains just over 850mg of Riboflavin.

Vitamin B3

The vitamin helps to maintain the mucous membranes and skin, contributes to normal energy metabolism and promotes normal psychological function. In addition, Vitamin B3 plays a role in the maintenance of the nervous system. Teenage boys require 16.5mg and girls require 13.2mg. One serving of our multivitamin tablets contains 12.0mg of Niacin.

Vitamin B5

Pantothenic Acid contributes to the production of energy levels, reducing fatigue and tiredness. The vitamin also improves cognitive performance, the synthesis of steroid hormones and certain neurotransmitters. One serving of our Vitamin B5 tablets contains 6.0mg of Vitamin B5.

Vitamin B6

The vitamin contributes to the normal production of two amino acids, cysteine and homocysteine, in addition to the normal protein, glycogen (a carbohydrate) and energy metabolism. Vitamin B6 also aids the nervous system, helps the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and produces neurotransmitters.

Vitamin B12

As with many of the B vitamins, Vitamin B12 plays a role in the metabolism of normal energy levels, reducing fatigue and tiredness. The vitamin also supports the immune system, aids normal functioning of the nervous system, psychological function and cell division, and contributes to red blood cell formation. Two of our Multivitamin tablets contain 1.16mcg of Vitamin B12, a beneficial amount to reach the recommended daily amount which is set by Public Health England. Young adults require 1.2 - 1.5mcg of the vitamin each day.

Vitamin C

The vitamin contributes to the maintenance of the immune system which contributes to a reduction in the feelings of tiredness and fatigue. This is further aided by Vitamin C’s role in energy metabolism to restore depleted energy stores, and the increase in iron consumption, particularly non-haem Iron, to prevent Iron deficiency anaemia. Another important property of the vitamin is its antioxidative characteristics and its ability to regenerate other antioxidants, including Vitamin E. Lastly, Vitamin C benefits collagen formation and supports the normal functioning of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth.  Two of our Multivitamin tablets for 11-18 year olds provides 35mg of Vitamin C which meets the daily recommendation of 35 - 40mg, set by Public Health England.

Vitamin D

These multivitamins contain vitamin D3, the form of vitamin D that is produced by the action of sunlight on the skin. The fat-soluble vitamin is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth as its presence is required in order for calcium absorption to take place. Vitamin D also aids the maintenance of normal muscle function, the immune system and the process of cell division.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is namely an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative stress caused by damaging free radicals. One serving of these tablets provides 6.7mg of Vitamin E.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a role in normal blood clotting to prompt coagulation, a process that closes wounds to prevent excessive blood loss. The vitamin also supports the maintenance of normal bones by helping the body to absorb Calcium. These tablets contain 35.6mcg Vitamin K2 in each serving.

Biotin

Biotin is primarily known for its contribution to the maintenance of normal hair and skin. The teenage years are stressful for many, due to several factors. When stressed, our immune system is less efficient. Biotin benefits the maintenance of mucous membranes to keep illness at bay, as well as macronutrient metabolism (carbohydrates, protein and fat) to provide energy for growth and repair. The vitamin also plays a role in the nervous system and normal psychological function. One serving contains 20mcg of Biotin.

Calcium

This nutrient contributes to the normal blood clotting process, energy metabolism, muscle function and normal neurotransmission. Calcium is also responsible for the normal function of digestive enzymes and cell division. Additionally, Calcium is required for the maintenance of teeth and bones, particularly for the normal growth and development of bones which occurs during our years as a young adult.

Chromium

Chromium helps to maintain blood glucose concentrations as the mineral is needed in the formation of GTF, the Glucose Tolerance Factor. This compound regulates glucose uptake in cells. The higher the glucose concentration in our cells, the more optimal the conditions for energy production. This is furthered by the mineral’s property to support macronutrient metabolism (carbohydrates, protein and fat) to provide energy.

Copper

Oxford Vitality provides 0.8mg of Copper in every two Multivitamin tablets. Copper is vital for the correct functioning of the body, including the maintenance of normal connective tissues, aiding energy metabolism, the functioning of the nervous system, Iron transportation in the body and normal skin and hair pigmentation. Copper is also an antioxidant and protects cells from antioxidative damage.

Folic Acid

Although teenage pregnancies have decreased in the UK, there are still thousands of pregnant teenagers in the UK. In 2016, 18,086 young adults under the age of 18 gave birth. Folic Acid is essential during pregnancy to prevent Neural Tube Defects (NTDs), such as Spina Bifida. Folic Acid is also often paired with Vitamin B12 to prevent Folate deficiency anaemia which affects the body’s ability to produce compatible red blood cells.

Iodine

These Multivitamin tablets contain Potassium Iodide, a type of Iodine. Iodine contributes to the production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid hormones, in addition to the maintenance of normal skin and growth. This means that the mineral is essential during growth spurts. Recent years have also shown a 30% increase in teenagers following a plant-based diet and vegetarians and vegans are more at risk of an Iodine deficiency.

Iron

Iron is primarily known for its role in the formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin which aid oxygen transportation around the body. This contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, furthered by the metabolism of energy metabolism. 14.78mg of Iron is included in two of these Multivitamin tablets.

Magnesium

Magnesium contributes to the reduction of fatigue by playing a role in the production of energy. The mineral also contributes to the normal function of the nervous system which is essential for muscle contraction, as well as muscle function and recovery. In addition, Magnesium is required for normal electrolyte balance.

Manganese

Manganese is naturally found in an abundance of foods and contributes to normal energy metabolism. This is affected by the production and activation of certain enzymes, a biological substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction. This is useful when digesting food, particularly as young adults need more energy when growing and developing and therefore tend to eat more food at this life stage to meet their energy requirements. Manganese is also needed for the maintenance of bones and connective tissue, benefiting bone health when growth occurs. Manganese is also an antioxidant, protecting DNA from oxidative stress.

Selenium

Teenagers require 45 - 70mcg of Selenium to support the health of normal hair, nails and functioning of the immune system. The mineral is also an antioxidant and provides protective properties against free radicals which are highly reactive molecules that damage DNA, proteins and lipids. Two of our Multivitamin tablets for 11-18 year olds contain 45.6mcg of Selenium.

Zinc

Our bodies retain 2.5g of Zinc but teenagers require 7.0 to 9.5mg of Zinc daily. These Multivitamin tablets provide 7.0mg Zinc in one serving (two tablets). The mineral is a trace mineral as we only need a small amount of the substance. Zinc is utilised in the metabolism of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fat) and fatty acids, including acid-base metabolism. The mineral also contributes to the process of cell division and protein synthesis and is required for fertility purposes. Zinc is also an antioxidant and helps maintain normal hair, nails, skin and vision.

Our Multivitamin tablets for 11 - 18 Year Olds

Our multivitamins are packed to the brim with nutrients. In order to do so, these tablets are one of our larger sizes, shaped like a torpedo. Each tablet is 18mm in size and we advise those who have trouble swallowing to avoid purchasing this product.

This product is not suitable for vegans but is now suitable for vegetarians. Our product may also contain traces of Gluten.

Please note - we advise you to contact your health professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking any medication before use. Certain medications may interact with Vitamin K2, including those for diabetes and anti-coagulants, and Vitamin K2 supplements should not be taken alongside these medications.

Safety note - Taking more than 200 μg/day of Folic Acid is not recommended for people who have a history of colorectal adenomas. If you have a history of colorectal adenomas, do not exceed 200 μg/day.

We recommend that both the 500 and 1,000 product options are more suitable for use by more than one person. This is to ensure that you are receiving full use of the product before its expiry date. For one person's use, we recommend the 120 or 240 tablet options.
