Our nutritional needs differ over the course of a lifetime. Although we all require the essential nutrients for optimal health, the quantity of each nutrient varies dramatically as we age. The nutritional needs of a man in his 60’s differs to that of a young boy aged 10 years. Although menopause is often associated with women, men also go through physiological and mental developments around the ages of 50 to 55 years, often referred to as andropause. This isn’t due to a reduction in testosterone as with female menopause, but rather lifestyle or personal factors such as stress. Symptoms of andropause include mood swings, loss of muscle mass, natural redistribution of body fat, reduced energy levels and lack of concentration. Our Multivitamin tablets for Men Over 50 Years have been formulated to optimise the health of men over 50 years. Our tablets include Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, D3, E and K2, as well as Biotin, Calcium, Chromium, Copper, Folic Acid, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Selenium and Zinc. Our Multivitamin tablets also benefit from the addition of Maca root extract and Ginseng, two natural products that enhance health.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A works with Copper to contribute to the metabolism of Iron. Additionally, the vitamin contributes to the maintenance of mucous membranes, normal skin and vision, and the immune system function. Some men find that their eyesight decreases with age, therefore sufficient intake of Vitamin A reduces the risk of vision problems. Our Multivitamin tablets contain 100% of the NRV for Vitamin A in every two tablets.

The B vitamins

Vitamin B1

Vitamin B2 is scientifically known as Thiamine, a nutrient which contributes to normal cardiac function, psychological function and the nervous system. Thiamine also enhances energy metabolism, converting food into energy.

Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) plays a role in the maintenance of normal red blood cells, skin, vision and the metabolism of Iron. Riboflavin also helps to reduce symptoms of fatigue by playing a role in energy metabolism. Each tablet provides 1.02mg of Vitamin B2.

Vitamin B3

Niacin, or Vitamin B5, is known for its role within the maintenance of normal skin and the mucous membranes, energy metabolism and the functioning of the nervous system. Niacin also contributes to normal psychological function, aiding the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Vitamin B5

Vitamin B5 is scientifically known as Pantothenic Acid, a nutrient that contributes to the synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, Vitamin D and certain neurotransmitters. By aiding energy metabolism, Vitamin B5 also helps to reduce feelings of tiredness and fatigue which enhances cognitive performance. Two of our Multivitamin tablets for Men over 50 Years supply 168% of the NRV for men.

Vitamin B6

The Vitamin B6 included in our Multivitamin tablets for Men over 50 years is in the form of Pyridoxine, a nutrient that contributes to the synthesis of cysteine and the metabolism of homocysteine. Vitamin B6 is also needed for the normal metabolism of glycogen and protein, as well as red blood cell formation to reduce the symptoms of fatigue and the regulation of hormones.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) aids the metabolism of cysteine and homocysteine, one of the amino acids that form the building blocks for protein. Like the majority of B vitamins, Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin and is lost very easily, hence why our tablets contain 488mcg of Vitamin B12 in each tablet.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant which regenerates other antioxidants and benefits the immune system to reduce feelings of fatigue. The vitamin also increases Iron absorption, particularly non-haem iron which is less readily absorbed. Additionally, Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen production which benefits the blood vessels, cartilage, gums, skin, bones and teeth of the older adult.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is the form of Vitamin D acquired from the sun. The presence of Vitamin D enables the absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorous, contributing to normal blood calcium levels, benefiting bone and tooth health as a result. However, men over the age of 50 years benefit from Vitamin D as the fat-soluble vitamin helps to reduce the risk of falling associated with postural instability and muscle weakness - falling is a risk factor for bone fracture in the older adult.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant, found in plant oils, nuts and seeds, and wheatgerm. Antioxidants are molecules that absorb free radicals, highly reactive particles that cause oxidative damage to DNA, proteins and lipids.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 is the more readily absorbed form of Vitamin K, a nutrient that contributes to normal blood clotting. Vitamin K also aids the maintenance of normal bones, helping the body to absorb calcium. Two of our Multivitamin tablets provide just over 100% of the NRV for Vitamin K2 in every two tablets (one serving size).

Biotin

Biotin (Vitamin B7) is commonly supplemented among men, particularly those over the age of 50 years, as the nutrient aids the maintenance of normal hair, in addition to normal skin, mucous membranes and the function of the nervous system.

Calcium

Calcium plays a vital role in structural health, including the bones, teeth, blood clotting, muscle function and neurotransmission. Calcium is also required for the normal function of digestive enzymes and the cell division process to replenish degenerating cells.

Chromium

Chromium plays an important role in the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels to control the sugar in our bodies. The nutrient also contributes to the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein and fats, boosting normal energy levels. Each Multivitamin tablet offers 40mcg of Chromium which meets the daily NRV for men.

Copper

Copper works in synergy with Iron, transporting the mineral around the body in the haemoglobin. Copper is also often supplemented for healthy pigmentation of the skin and hair, acting as a natural antioxidant to aid the function of the immune system.

Folic acid

Many are not aware that Folic acid differs from Folate; Folic acid is the supplemental form of the nutrient and Folate is naturally found in many foods, including broccoli, brussels sprouts and other green, leafy vegetables. Each Multivitamin tablet provides 50% of the NRV for Folic acid, meaning that one serving of two tablets offers 100% of the NRV.

Iodine

Iodine is responsible for the normal production and function of the thyroid and thyroid hormones. As we age, our thyroid becomes less active. Ensuring an adequate Iodine intake reduces the risk of an underactive thyroid gland, a component of the body that controls the conversion of oxygen and calories into energy. In addition, Iodine aids the functioning of the nervous system and cognitive system.

Iron

Iron is a component of haemoglobin, which carries oxygen around the body. This reduces symptoms of fatigue, combined with Iron’s ability to promote normal energy metabolism. Iron is also beneficial for normal cognitive function, the immune system and the process of cell division.

Magnesium

More and more men over the age of 50 years are becoming interested in strength training. Studies have shown that strength training can reduce the loss of bone mass in the older adult. Magnesium aids strength training since the mineral contributes to electrolyte balance which is needed for normal muscle function. In addition, the mineral contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth and the functioning of the nervous system.

Manganese

Men over the age of 50 years benefit from Magnesium as the mineral contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. As men age, bone density decreases, causing bones to become more fragile which increases the risk of bone fractures. Manganese is also a natural antioxidant and is required for the formation of connective tissues.

Selenium

Men benefit from Selenium intake as the mineral contributes to normal spermatogenesis. Selenium also contributes to the normal function of the immune system and the thyroid glands, in addition to acting as an antioxidant. Selenium is a very important part of our diet, hence why each of our Multivitamin tablets provides 40mcg of Selenium.

Zinc

Zinc contributes to normal DNA synthesis and aids the metabolism of macronutrients, including acid-base metabolism which is the balance between acidity and alkalinity. Zinc is also important for the metabolism of Vitamin A and the maintenance of hair, nails and skin. Men particularly benefit from Zinc as the nutrient contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood.

Maca Root

Maca is extracted from the root of the Lepidium meyenii plant, a plant that is native to the Andes mountains in South America. Although Maca is traditionally known as an aphrodisiac, the root extract is more commonly known to contribute to energy levels and strength. We have included Maca in our Multivitamin Tablets for Men over 50 Years as the bone density decreases with age, and Maca is believed to enhance bone strength to reduce the risk of bone fractures.

Ginseng

Ginseng is extracted from the Panax ginseng plant, translating to ‘cure-all’ in Greek. Our Multivitamin Tablets for Men over 50 years include Ginseng which contain ginsenosides, the active ingredient in the plant. Ginsenosides promote energy production and glucose metabolism to prevent sudden falls in blood glucose levels, reducing fatigue.

Our Multivitamin Tablets for Men Over 50 Years

Our Multivitamin Tablets for Men Over 50 Years are full to the brim with 22 essential vitamins and minerals and 2 herbal extracts. For this reason, these tablets are offered in our classic torpedo style tablet - therefore we advise those with problems swallowing to not purchase this tablet. We recommend consuming two tablets a day for maximum health benefits.

This product is not suitable for vegetarians and vegans. This product may also contain Gluten.

Please notewe advise you to contact your health professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking any medication before use. Certain medications may interact with Vitamin K2, including those for diabetes and anti-coagulants, and Vitamin K2 supplements should not be taken alongside these medications.

We recommend that both the 500 and 1,000 product options are more suitable for use by more than one person. This is to ensure that you are receiving full use of the product before its expiry date. For one person's use, we recommend the 120 or 240 tablet options.

Quality of ingredients is more important than price

I always thought I could maintain good health by exercising and eating sensible but with modern farming practices and pollution in the sea it's not easy, that's why I buy supplements from oxford vitality, after finding really good benefits from taking Vit C D and E over the years I realized that a complete range of vitamins may be just as beneficial.

50+ Multi

A really good combined supplement, to my mind. Vit A not offered in many multis and I think it is worthwhile. But....Thank you for the warning not to exceed the given dose of 200mmg Folic Acid: I was taking a Vit B multi (always of course good to take Vit Bs together not individually) which contained 366mmg Folic Acid. That multi therefore I have discontinued. Your vigilance is appreciated! The very high dose of B12 (1mg) surprises me? Why do you set it at 40,000%?! Anyone seriously deficient in B12 needs intravenous B12 (and Intrinsic Factor) and this whopping dose seems to me strange? I would like your comment.

Quick delivery

I read the reviews on this item before I bought it, people complaining about the size of the tablet, not easy to swallow, having read the item description on the website it states quite clearly that these are large tablets which some may find hard to swallow, so pointless reviews!
A recent blood test showed I was low on B12 and some other minerals so I’m giving these a try but won’t know the results until the next test.
