What is NMN
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a form of Vitamin B3 that occurs naturally in the body and in various foods. NMNis known for its ability to convert to Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+), a key molecule involved in numerous physiological processes including energy production and metabolism. NMN is found in small quantities in foods such as broccoli, avocado, tomatoes, edamame, cucumber, beef, shrimp and milk. However, these dietary sources generally provide less than 1mg of NMN per 100g food, making it challenging to meet specific needs through diet alone.
What is NAD+
NAD+ is an essential co-enzyme present in every cell in the human body with various biological functions including energy metabolism. Discovered in 1906 by British biochemists Arthur Harden and William John Young, the functions of NAD+ were described thirty years later by Otto Henrich Warburg. As research suggests that NAD+ levels decline with age and age-related diseases, there is an emerging interest in maintaining levels throughout the lifespan.
