Origins of Maca
The Maca we know is extracted from the root of the Maca plant, otherwise known as Lepidium meyenii. The Maca plant originates from the Andes mountains where it thrives in the high altitude of the mountainous environment. Maca was traditionally given to warriors native to the Andes mountains, the Inca warriors. The plant was thought to increase their strength and endurance during battles. Maca has also been considered as an aphrodisiac and is still thought to contribute to fertility in the modern-day.
Benefits of Maca
Maca is a very nutritious product, consisting of high levels of protein, fibre, Vitamin C, Copper and Iron. Maca is also thought to contribute to energy levels, stamina and athletic performance, in addition to improving cognitive performance.
