What Are Rosehips?
Rosehips are the fruits taken from the wild shrub Rosa canina, which grow across Europe, Northwest Africa and Western Asia. The rosehip is ripe after the flower has bloomed and pollination has occurred, and similar to a rose, rosehips are a red-orange colour. They have been used in folk medicine and consumed as a herbal tea for many years.
Benefits of Rosehips
Rosehips are very high in Vitamin C, in fact, 3x rosehips contain more Vitamin C than a single orange. They are also high in antioxidants, carotenoids and flavonoids, which can help to protect cells from oxidative stress and reduce inflammation within the body. The high content of Vitamin C helps to maintain the normal function of the immune system by stimulating the production of certain immune cells, called T-cells, and contributing to normal collagen production. This helps to maintain the epithelial layer of skin, and allow it to act as a barrier against unwanted microorganisms. Vitamin C also contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, which can help to reduce weakness and fatigue.
