Origins of Sea Kelp
There are numerous types of seaweed, broken down into three groups - red, brown and green. The colour represents the amount of light absorbed in the seaweed via photosynthesis, representing how close to the surface the seaweed grows.
Sea Kelp is a type of brown seaweed that grows on rocks underwater. It is the largest type of seaweed with strands growing up to 200m. This seaweed is native to the Northern Atlantic Ocean, particularly the upper section of the ocean. Historically, seaweed was previously known as a 'sea vegetable', with first knowledge of the algae dating back to 600 BC when seaweed was used solely for the King's special guests.
Oxford Vitality uses Undaria pinnatifida as the source of Sea Kelp in our tablets. Sea Kelp is a natural source of Iodine.
Iodine in Sea Kelp
Sea Kelp is a natural source of Iodine, an essential mineral that is required for our body to function efficiently. The mineral is only required in small amounts to contribute to normal cognitive and neurological function, normal energy-yielding metabolism. Iodine also supports the production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function, and maintenance of the skin.
