What is Vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12, otherwise known as Cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that is stored in the liver within the body. Vitamin B12 can only be absorbed in the intrinsic factor (a protein produced in the stomach) is present. Without this factor, Vitamin B12 passes through the intestine and is excreted. The vitamin was founded in the early 20th century after the discovery of its deficiency disease, pernicious anaemia.
Vitamin B12 is available in four main forms called Hydroxylcobalamin, Methylcobalamin, Cyanocobalmin, and Adenosylcobalamin. This tablet contains the Cyanocobalamin form of vitamin B12. Once consumed, this form of Vitamin B12 is converted into either Methylcobalamin or Adenosylcobalamin, the two active forms of Vitamin B12 within the human body. Cyanocobalamin is produced from natural sources via the fermentation of Pseudomonas denitrificans.
Benefits of Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is primarily known for its energy metabolism properties, reducing feelings of tiredness and fatigue. This is aided by the normal formation of red blood cells which carry oxygen around the body. In doing so, our immune system functions more efficiently. Additionally, Vitamin B12 also contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system, homocysteine (an amino acid) metabolism, psychological function and the process of cell division.
